Local Government
North Lincolnshire Council is our principal unitary authority, responsible for most major services including most roads. It sets the domestic rate including a precept for the cost of running each parish/town council which have lesser powers. Barton Ward has three elected Conservative North Lincolnshire Councillors, presently Keith Vickers (633951), Paul Vickers (637622) and Jon Evison (07976276895). The adjoining unitary authority is North East Lincolnshire Council.
Elections for both North Lincolnshire Council and Barton Town Council will be held on 4th May 2015 so those mentioned will only be elected until then. Details of new members will be on www.thebartondirectory.co.uk

Full council meetings held at Baysgarth House (see Heritage) every first Wednesday of the month at 1930. Committee meetings at the Assembly Rooms. Members of the public are entitled to attend both full council and committee meetings unless excluded by resolution. Minutes are published on the website but only after formal approval.
Barton Town Council is responsible for some environmental and community regeneration issues and public seats/benches. It is consulted in all Barton planning applications although it can only make recommendations. A supply of local information publications is available at the offices.

Barton Town Council organises an annual Christmas Festival (usually 29th November) and the free Picnic in the Park (usually 1st Sunday in August). Most environmental services are managed by North Lincolnshire Council Neighbourhood Services, (see North Lincolnshire Council, below) and not by Barton Town Council.

Town councillors will serve until 4th May 2015 but in the event of any not being able to continue in office, there will either be an election for that vacancy or the remaining members may co-opt a replacement (presentations required to a full council meeting for applicants):

The Bartonian, delivered to all households in Barton is the town magazine which is usually published in April, July and November and can be viewed on the website. Public Notice Boards are at the Assembly Rooms, Baysgarth House, the Post Office and Tesco Store.
